To bring exciting and underrepresented art to St. Louis, the Turner Center for the Arts and RHD-Missouri have partnered to present the inaugural St. Louis Outsider Art Fair on May 11, 2012.

The aesthetic of outsider art is unlike most of the art people normally encounter.  It is a raw and unbridled form of art, and it is practiced by artists who have not had formal art training (such as art college or apprenticeship.)  Technically, outsider art is any artwork whose aesthetic doesn’t align with that of the mainstream art world.  In practice, outsider art is made by people expressing what they feel and think and see as simply as possible with a high degree of individuality and inventiveness.

While the term “outsider art” generally encompasses many art movements and aesthetics, it aptly describes what will be on display and for sale at the 2012 St. Louis Outsider Art Fair.  Hundreds of pieces of affecting, arresting, dynamic and exciting artwork representing many aspects of the wider “outsider art movement” will be on display for the one night exhibition.

Aside from the many pieces of artwork, the event will also feature DJ Rocket spinning fantastic tunes all night.
